Amanda Lorenz- Softball

Hello everyone! This week I got to follow a Gator softball player around for a day.  -Hope you enjoy learning about a new athlete and sport! Amanda Lorenz- Softball  Amanda Lorenz is a junior on The University of Florida’s softball team. She is originally from California so the Gainesville heat hasn’t been too much of a shock for her. Lorenz is an outfielder but she her favorite part of the game is hitting. The Gators are currently 16-1 and Lorenz’s batting average is a 0.444. She took me through what a day in the life looks like for her on Wednesday. This particular Wednesday she had a double header, one game at 4 p.m. and one at 7 p.m. Wednesday's with Lorenz 7:30 a.m. Wake up, get dressed, do makeup and grab a cup of coffee before rushing out the door to her 8:30 class. 8:30-10:30 a.m. Class 10:45-11:45 a.m. Get homework or studying done at the Hawkins Center (student-athlete academic center). 11:45- 12:35 p.m. C...

UF softball vs. Oakland

The University of Florida softball team played the Oakland Golden Grizzlies in a mid-week double header this past Wednesday. The Gators won the early game 6-2 and then they run-ruled Oakland in the second game, 10-0. Check out my live tweeting of the second game! Talk to you soon! -Cheney

Austin Appleby Life Update

                          Most people wouldn’t choose to start their day off at 5 a.m. in a locker room full of sweaty football players. Most people wouldn’t wish and hope to do so day in and day out either. However, most people also haven’t been able to say they’ve set records at one of the most prestigious schools in the country. And most people, in fact all other people, are not Austin Appleby. Appleby was the first graduate transfer to earn the starting job at quarterback at the University of Florida.   He did so in 2016. Alicia Boren- Practice

Alicia Boren is a junior on the University of Florida Gymnastics team. She is currently in the middle of a very successful junior season. Practices at UF are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and then competitions are on Friday. To get ready for a meet every week, practices have to be quick and productive to be sure gymnasts bodies stay as healthy as possible. Nassar Notes and Great Article Read!

Welcome back! This post goes through and highlights one of the biggest scandals in sports history and there's also a great article attached to it. -Hope you learn something new! Larry Nassar was the USA Gymnastics national team doctor as well as a team physician at Michigan State University. He was accused of molesting at least 250 girls and young women. He pleaded guilty to at least ten of the 250 accusations. Late last month, he was sentenced to 40-175 years in a Michigan state prison. This scandal broke after an article by the IndyStar was published back in 2016. Rachael Denhollander was the first to speak out and talk to the IndyStar.
