-Hope you enjoy learning about a new athlete and sport!
Abby Howell- Diving
Abby is a junior on the UF Diving team and she has had somewhat of a different season this year. A few days before her second meet of the season she injured her shoulder pretty badly. Howell has experienced shoulder injuries before so once it happened she immediately knew what it was. Luckily, her injury came at the very beginning of the season and she was able to take a red shirt year because of it. This is how Howell goes through a typical Tuesday.
Tuesday's with Howell
7:00 a.m. Wake up, grab a banana with some peanut butter and head to dry land practice in the UF Gymnastics facility.
*Dry land practice for divers is practicing their dives and flips on trampolines, tumbl traks, and soft mats into the pit.
8:15 a.m. Finish dry land and head to class.
8:30-10:25 a.m. American History Class.
10:40-11:30 a.m. Get on scooter and head to Technical Writing class.
12 p.m. Grab lunch from her team's fueling station, sit with a few other UF athletes and relax before her second practice of the day.
1:00 p.m. Head over to the pool to begin warming up for practice. Howell will get some treatment on her shoulder and get it taped up because she just started doing basic dives in the water about 2 weeks ago.
1:30-4:00 p.m. Diving practice. Today, Howell and her team practiced on the 1M and 3M springboards.
4:15-4:45 p.m. Recovery time. Howell gets her shoulder massaged out and gets it iced.
5:00-6:00 p.m. Dinner at Training Table with other UF athletes. Tuesday's are taco Tuesday bowls!
6:30-9:00 p.m. Head home to chat with her roommates and work on any homework she has.
9:15 p.m. Heads upstairs to her room and puts on Netflix.
10:30 p.m. Lights out, goes to sleep so she can do it all over again the next day!
Howell is excited to get back into the full swing of things to make her next season her best on yet. She'll have two more seasons to do just that.
Talk to you again soon!
-Cheney
